The camp is situated directly along the banks of the Talek River, lying within a rich riverside forest environment.Â
A private suspension bridge offers walking access to the immediate edges of the main Masai Mara National Reserve. This setting combines scenic seclusion with convenient access to the region’s key wildlife zones.
Accommodation
Basecamp features 17 spacious, classically styled canvas tents, all arranged to maximize solitude and face the river. Interiors use light finishes and canvas walls, creating a balance between privacy and the surrounding nature.Â
Each tent includes an en suite bathroom and a dual shower system. The external outdoor shower on the private deck provides an intimate connection to the wilderness.
The central experience revolves around the common open-walled dining deck and the Migration Bar. Guests share meals overlooking the river, with evenings centered on the open fire pit for conversation.Â
The camp houses the Enjoolata Awareness and Training Centre, which serves as a hub for education on Maasai culture and conservation. Service is warm and unhurried, fostering a homely atmosphere.

Basecamp has restored the Talek River ecosystem by planting over 300,000 indigenous trees across a 30-acre reforestation project. The camp founded the Basecamp Maasai Brand, a certified fair-trade workshop, to empower over 250 Maasai women artisans. All plastic waste is collected and shipped to Nairobi for recycling, making Talek the only settlement in the Mara with this waste management program.
