About This Lodge

Olgatuni Camp is a mid-range, semi-permanent tented camp located in the heart of the Masai Mara National Reserve. The name “Olgatuni” translates to “Lion” in the Maasai language, reflecting its position within the territories of two resident lion prides.

The camp offers a rustic and authentic bush experience, avoiding heavy permanent structures in favor of a low-impact presence. It is unfenced, allowing wildlife to wander freely through the grounds, which creates an immersive atmosphere for guests who want to be close to nature.

Location & Setting

The camp is situated near the Ol Kiombo Airstrip and the Talek River. Its central location places it in one of the most wildlife-rich areas of the reserve, often referred to as the “big cat” region.

Guests arriving by air land at Ol Kiombo, a short 10-minute drive from the camp. The setting is typical of the Mara savannah, with open plains and riverine vegetation providing cover for the resident leopard, known as Bahati, who is often spotted in the trees nearby.

Accommodation

Olgatuni features 14 tents, comprising 10 twin-sharing units and 4 family tents. The design is simple and grounded, utilising canvas structures with earthen design shower cubicles.

Each tent is en-suite, equipped with flush toilets and hot showers. The family tents are spacious, accommodating up to four people with a mix of queen and single beds. A zip enclosure system allows guests to open their tents to the outdoors, and private verandas offer a quiet space to observe the surroundings.

Facilities & Experiences

The main area includes a dining tent where meals are served, though tables are often set up outdoors to take advantage of the weather. There is a lounge area for relaxation between game drives.

In the evenings, the campfire becomes the focal point for socialising. The camp runs on solar power, ensuring lights and charging facilities are available while keeping noise and pollution to a minimum.
