About This Lodge

Giraffe Manor is a historic boutique hotel that offers a rare and quiet connection to nature within Nairobi’s Langata suburb. The property is famous for its resident herd of Rothschild’s giraffes, who often visit the manor in search of a morning treat.

It is housed in a 1930s manor house that retains the charm of a bygone era, characterized by brick walls, large windows, and lush creeping vines. The atmosphere is intimate and storied, feeling more like a private home than a hotel. It provides a steady, gentle experience that focuses on the extraordinary interaction between humans and wildlife, set against a backdrop of old-world elegance.

Location & Setting

The manor is set within 12 acres of private land, which is part of a larger 140-acre indigenous forest in the Langata area of Nairobi. This setting creates a green sanctuary that feels far removed from the city’s industrial core.

The property is defined by ancient trees and open lawns where the giraffes roam freely. It is located near the southern edge of the city, providing easy access to the Nairobi National Park and the Karen district. The air is noticeably cooler and fresher here, with the sounds of the forest replacing the typical urban hum.

Accommodation

Accommodation is split between the original manor and the newer Garden Manor, totaling 12 distinct rooms. Each room is named after a specific giraffe and features a unique layout that honors the building’s heritage.

The design incorporates antique furnishings, four-poster beds, and large windows specifically positioned to allow for giraffe interaction. The sensory experience is one of refined heritage; the creak of wooden floors and the soft light filtering through the trees create a tranquil, timeless environment. The bathrooms are spacious, often featuring classic bathtubs and period fixtures.

Facilities & Experiences

The heart of the experience is the wood-paneled dining room and the sun-drenched breakfast room, where guests share space with the long-necked residents. The manor’s drawing room, with its large fireplace, serves as a communal gathering point for evening drinks and conversation.

The wide stone terrace provides a peaceful spot to watch the giraffes move across the lawn as the sun sets. Service is highly personalized and warm, reflecting the manor’s origins as a family residence. Every meal is an event, celebrating fresh, local ingredients in a setting that feels both grand and cozy.
