About This Lodge

Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort offers a grounded and expansive stay on the southern shores of Lake Naivasha, defined by its vast, rolling lawns that merge with the acacia woodlands. The resort’s identity is shaped by its open spaces, where wildlife like giraffes and waterbucks often graze freely among the stone-walled cottages.

It provides a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere that values space and steady comfort over modern hype. The experience promise is one of quiet connection to the Rift Valley’s natural rhythms, serving as a reliable and spacious base for those exploring the lake’s unique ecosystem. Its position makes it a significant stop on any Kenyan circuit that prioritizes a gentle, unhurried introduction to the country’s varied landscapes.

Location & Setting

The resort is situated on the southern banks of Lake Naivasha, a freshwater lake within the Great Rift Valley. It lies approximately 90 kilometers from Nairobi, accessible via the main highway or a short flight into the Naivasha airstrip.

The setting is characterized by mature yellow-barked acacia trees and wide-open green spaces that transition into the lakeshore. This geography provides a sense of seclusion while remaining conveniently close to the lake’s main activity hubs. The flat terrain allows for easy movement throughout the grounds, with the towering volcanic peaks of Longonot visible in the distance across the water.

Accommodation

The resort features 84 large, en-suite rooms housed in distinctive stone-walled rondavel cottages. Each cottage contains four rooms—two on the ground floor and two on the upper level—designed with high ceilings and light-colored finishes to enhance the sense of space.

The interiors use natural wood and stone textures to ground the experience in its Rift Valley setting. Every room extends to a private balcony or a ground-level patio, serving as a quiet vantage point for observing the resident wildlife. Guests experience the soft, cool air of the lake at night, with ample room for families or small groups to rest comfortably.

Facilities & Experiences

Lodge life centers on the communal main building, where the dining hall and lounge areas are designed with massive floor-to-ceiling windows to maintain a visual link with the outdoors. The atmosphere is steady and communal, with a large swimming pool that serves as a central social point during the warm midday hours.

The resort’s signature experience is the evening hippopotamus viewing, as these large mammals emerge from the lake to graze on the lawns just outside the rooms. Service is attentive but unhurried, fostering a homely environment where guests can unwind by the fireplace in the lounge or enjoy a quiet drink overlooking the gardens.

By focusing on site-specific reforestation, the property ensures the long-term survival of the local giraffe population that relies on these trees for forage.
