About This Lodge

Lewa Safari Camp offers a grounded and refined safari experience within the internationally recognized Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. It serves as a core base for those looking to understand the intersection of high-level wildlife protection and hospitality. The atmosphere is steady and knowledgeable, reflecting the camp’s deep roots in the region’s conservation history.

The camp avoids the feel of a busy resort, opting instead for a quiet, boutique environment that prioritizes the vastness of its surroundings. Guests find a space where the rhythm of the day is dictated by the movement of wildlife across the northern plains. This property delivers an authentic connection to the land, offering a stay that is both comfortable and deeply informative for the modern traveler.

Location & Setting

The camp is set on the northern slopes of Mount Kenya, within the rolling grasslands of the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. Its geography is defined by open savannah and the dramatic backdrop of the jagged mountain peaks to the south.

The camp is situated near the marshy areas of the conservancy, which serve as a natural magnet for various species. Access is primarily through the Lewa airstrip, a short drive from the camp’s main entrance. The location is strategically placed to allow for immediate access to the conservancy’s diverse habitats, ranging from high ridges to flat, open plains.

Accommodation

The camp consists of 13 large, en suite safari tents built on permanent platforms and covered by traditional thatched roofs. The design utilizes natural materials and soft, earthy tones to create a sense of space and light that mirrors the surrounding environment.

Each tent features a private veranda that overlooks the plains, offering a personal vantage point into the wilderness. The interiors focus on simplicity and comfort, with wide windows allowing for natural ventilation and a constant sensory connection to the sounds of the bush. The layout ensures privacy while maintaining a close relationship with the landscape.

Facilities & Experiences

The common areas are designed around a central lounge and dining room, which features large fireplaces to counter the cool northern nights. A shaded veranda serves as the primary gathering spot, offering views of a nearby waterhole where rhinos and elephants are frequent visitors.

The camp features a swimming pool nestled within the gardens, offering a serene spot for midday relaxation. The dining experience is relaxed, with an emphasis on fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The service is attentive yet unintrusive, aiming to make guests feel like part of a long-standing conservation community rather than just visitors.
