About This Lodge

Mara Maisha Camp provides a classic, unpretentious safari experience situated on the eastern edge of the Masai Mara National Reserve. The camp’s identity is defined by its approachable hospitality and its position at the base of the Meguarra Hills. The atmosphere is open and steady, focusing on providing a functional and comfortable base for active wildlife exploration.

It serves as a dependable retreat that balances the rustic charm of life under canvas with the practical needs of modern travelers. This property is ideal for those who value a straightforward, grounded stay where the emphasis remains on the daily rhythm of the surrounding savannah. It offers a stay that is both welcoming and authentic, ensuring guests feel connected to the landscape without unnecessary complexity.

Location & Setting

The camp is positioned in the Oloolaimutia valley, just a short distance from the Oloolaimutia Gate. Its geography is characterized by the rolling slopes of the nearby hills and the seasonal stream that runs through the grounds, providing a natural corridor for birdlife and small mammals.

Access is convenient via a 5 to 6-hour road transfer from Nairobi or a 45-minute flight to the Keekorok airstrip, followed by a brief game drive. The setting is defined by indigenous scrub and acacia trees, offering a sense of proximity to the reserve while remaining easily accessible for travelers on a circuit safari.

Accommodation

Mara Maisha features 40 spacious tents, including dedicated family units, all set on raised stone and wooden platforms. The design is a traditional blend of canvas and stone, featuring large windows that allow the morning light to filter through. Each tent is a simple, clean suite with a private wooden deck that looks out over the valley or the camp’s gardens.

The interiors use warm earth tones and local wooden finishes, creating a calm and practical environment. Sensory details like the sound of the wind through the acacia branches and the feel of fresh linens provide a sense of relaxation after a day on the plains.

Facilities & Experiences

The common areas are centered around a large, open-sided dining and lounge area that encourages a social and communal atmosphere. A signature experience is the evening campfire, where guests gather to share sightings from the day under the wide African sky. The camp provides a friendly service style that feels personal and attentive, catering to an unhurried lodge life.

Dining is a relaxed affair, emphasizing hearty local and international flavors served in a shared setting. For relaxation, the communal lounge offers comfortable seating and a small bar, while the overall layout allows for quiet walks within the secure perimeter of the camp.
