About This Lodge

Saruni Eagle View is a hilltop retreat that integrates minimal structure into the open landscape of the Mara Naboisho Conservancy. Set high on a ridge, the camp overlooks an active natural waterhole and a salt lick, providing a continuous connection to wildlife behavior without disturbing its flow. The atmosphere balances quiet isolation with raw exposure to nature, offering wide-reaching views over the savanna.

This camp prioritizes space and simplicity, avoiding heavy décor to let the surrounding movement of animals take center stage. It serves as an unhurried sanctuary for travellers who want to step back from crowded tracks and experience the rhythm of the wilderness from an elevated, clear perspective.

Location & Setting

Perched on an escarpment within the 20,000-hectare private Naboisho Conservancy, the camp looks down over the Koiyaki River valley. The terrain features a blend of rocky slopes, acacia woodlands, and expansive plains that support healthy populations of predators and herbivores.

This private setting ensures low vehicle density, creating a quiet environment for tracking wildlife. Guests access the property via the nearby airstrip, traversing wilderness paths before reaching the ridge. Positioned well away from the busier core of the main reserve, the location offers a sense of privacy where the sounds of grazing herds and nocturnal hunters dominate the day and night.

Accommodation

The camp offers nine elevated viewpoint tents constructed on raised timber platforms to maximize the panoramic landscape. The design focuses on clean lines and natural canvas, allowing cool breezes to pass through the living spaces. Each tent features a private veranda that faces the valley, creating a personal vantage point for watching animals gather at the waterhole below.

The interiors include comfortable bedding and en-suite facilities with twin basins and an outdoor safari shower that looks into the bush canopy. The layout emphasizes privacy and openness, ensuring that the natural environment remains visible from almost every corner of the room.

Facilities & Experiences

The central communal area features an elevated dining deck and lounge that seamlessly merge into the hillside. A small plunge pool with an infinity edge looks directly over the plains, offering a place to rest during midday heat while keeping watch for passing game.

Evening life moves toward the outdoor fireplace, where guests can listen to oral histories and participate in quiet conversations under the stars. The Maasai Wellness Spa provides treatments using traditional botanicals, adding a calm rhythm to the stay. The service is relaxed and personal, ensuring that dining and leisure match the flexible pace of the private conservancy.

Our Sustainability & Community Impact

The property operates with an advanced bio-flush sanitation system that prevents chemical runoff from altering the delicate Koiyaki River drainage system. Rather than implementing general green programs, the camp directly supports the Basecamp Maasai Brand, an initiative that enables hundreds of local women to sustain financial independence through traditional beading arts. Guests can purchase these crafts directly, contributing to a hyper-local economy that links wildlife conservation with gender-focused financial security.
