About This Lodge

Serengeti Kifaru Tented Lodge is a boutique retreat positioned on the edge of the central Serengeti plains. The property takes its name from the Swahili word for rhino, reflecting a commitment to the preservation of the park’s diverse wildlife. The lodge is designed to offer a balance between the raw nature of the bush and the comforts of a modern home.

It serves as a central hub for exploring the Seronera Valley, an area known for its high density of predators and year-round wildlife activity. The atmosphere is quiet and focused, prioritizing the sights and sounds of the savannah. It is a place for those who want to be close to the action of the Serengeti while maintaining a sense of privacy and calm at the end of the day.

Location & Setting

The lodge is situated on a gentle slope that overlooks the vast grasslands of the central Serengeti. This location provides a wide perspective of the horizon, where the sky meets the plains in an unbroken line. The surrounding vegetation consists of acacia trees and seasonal wildflowers that draw in a variety of birdlife and smaller mammals.

Its proximity to the Seronera airstrip makes it easily accessible for fly-in safaris. The setting is strategic, allowing for quick access to the main game-viewing circuits while being tucked away enough to avoid the noise of passing safari vehicles. The landscape here remains vibrant throughout the year, supported by the permanent water sources nearby.

Accommodation

The lodge features ten spacious canvas tents built on raised wooden platforms. Each unit is positioned to ensure maximum privacy and views of the surrounding wilderness. The interiors use a palette of soft greys, tans, and creams to match the dry season grass and granite outcrops. Large mesh windows allow the breeze to circulate, bringing the scent of the bush inside.

Each tent has an en-suite bathroom with a rainfall shower and a private veranda where guests can sit and watch the light change over the plains. The furniture is handcrafted from local timber, giving the rooms a sturdy and grounded feel. The focus is on comfort and functionality without distracting from the natural environment outside.

Facilities & Experiences

At the heart of the lodge is a central lounge and dining area built with open sides to maintain a constant connection with the outdoors. A small plunge pool sits on the edge of the deck, offering a place to cool off while watching giraffes or zebras wander in the distance.

The dining experience focuses on fresh, locally sourced ingredients prepared in a style that is both simple and filling. Evenings are often spent around the fire pit, which serves as a natural gathering point for sharing stories of the day’s sightings. The service is personal and attentive, aimed at making guests feel like they are staying in a private home rather than a large hotel.

Our Sustainability & Community Impact

The lodge operates a specialized honey procurement program that supports traditional beekeepers on the park boundaries, helping to reduce human-wildlife conflict by providing alternative livelihoods. Furthermore, the property maintains a strict “Zero-Sound” policy during evening hours to prevent the disruption of the acoustic communication used by nearby lion prides and nocturnal species. By choosing materials that can be entirely disassembled and removed without leaving a trace on the soil, the lodge preserves the integrity of the Serengeti’s geological layers for future generations.
