About This Lodge

Tarangire Treetops is a unique retreat built into the massive baobab and marula trees that define the landscape of the Randilen Wildlife Management Area. Its identity is shaped by its elevated architecture, where the living spaces are integrated into the branches of these ancient trees, providing a perspective that is physically and metaphorically above the ground.

The atmosphere is steady and adventurous, offering a sense of childhood wonder balanced with professional service. It provides a grounded connection to the wild, using the height to offer expansive views of the surrounding plains and the wildlife that moves through them. The experience centers on this vertical integration, making it a distinct base for travellers who value a creative and unhurried approach to the northern Tanzanian safari circuit.

Location & Setting

The property is situated in a private conservation area on the eastern border of Tarangire National Park. This geography acts as a vital wildlife corridor, where the terrain is a mix of open grasslands and dense stands of baobab trees. The setting is quiet and secluded, positioned away from the main park gates to allow for private exploration of the surrounding wilderness.

Access is typically via a drive from Arusha or a flight to the Kuro airstrip, followed by a scenic transfer through the conservancy. The location is defined by its sense of space and the absence of other vehicles, creating a private environment where the natural rhythms of the bush are the primary focus.

Accommodation

The retreat consists of 20 elevated suites, each built around the trunk of a living tree. The design uses natural materials like local wood and canvas to ensure the structures blend into the canopy. The interiors are expansive and open-faced, with large private decks that serve as an extension of the living space.

Each suite features a double shower and high-quality furnishings that mirror the warm tones of the bark and earth. The sensory experience is dominated by the rustle of leaves and the sight of the horizon from a heightened vantage point. The layout encourages guests to spend quiet hours on their decks, watching the movement of elephants and giraffes from a unique, aerial perspective.

Facilities & Experiences

Life at the property revolves around the central lodge area, which is anchored by a thousand-year-old baobab tree. The dining area and lounge are open to the breeze, maintaining a constant link with the outdoors. A swimming pool offers a cool spot for midday rest, overlooking a busy waterhole where wildlife often gathers to drink.

The service is attentive and personal, mirroring the relaxed and adventurous spirit of the camp. Evenings are centered on the traditional boma, where guests gather around a fire to share stories of the day. The atmosphere throughout is one of quiet adventure, where the focus remains on the surrounding ecosystem and the unique architectural harmony of the site.
