About This Lodge

Ubuntu Migration Camp is a seasonal, mobile tented facility designed to follow the natural rhythm of the Great Migration across the Serengeti ecosystem. It shifts between three strategic locations—the south, west, and north—to ensure guests remain within reach of the massive wildebeest and zebra herds.

The camp maintains a traditional and unhurried atmosphere, focusing on the raw experience of the African bush rather than fixed luxury. It provides a balanced connection to the landscape, offering a grounded base for those who value authenticity and proximity to wildlife. The setting is intimate and quiet, allowing the sounds of the surrounding wilderness to define the stay. It is an ideal choice for travellers seeking a mobile safari that combines simple comfort with a front-row seat to one of nature’s most significant events.

Location & Setting

The camp’s position changes throughout the year to track the movement of the herds. From December to March, it sits in the southern Serengeti near the Ndutu area, where the calving season takes place on the short-grass plains. Between May and July, it moves to the Western Corridor near the Nyakoroma Hills before settling in the northern Serengeti from August to November to witness the Mara River crossings.

Each site is chosen for its seclusion and access to key wildlife zones. Access is typically via scheduled flights to the nearest airstrip, such as Serengeti South or Kogatende, followed by a short transfer to the camp. The environment at each location is kept pristine, with the mobile nature of the camp ensuring minimal lasting impact on the ground.

Accommodation

The camp consists of eight spacious, en-suite tents, including a family unit that sleeps up to four people. Each tent is designed with classic canvas walls and mesh panels to allow natural light and air to flow through the space. The interiors feature light wooden furniture, comfortable beds with quality linens, and private verandas equipped with campaign chairs for quiet observation.

The bathrooms are functional and authentic, featuring flush toilets and traditional safari bucket showers filled with hot water on request. This layout encourages a sensory connection to the outdoors, where guests can hear the distant calls of predators and the movement of the herds directly from their rooms.

Facilities & Experiences

Here, Life at Ubuntu centres around two main communal tents that house the lounge and dining areas. These spaces are open-sided, offering uninterrupted views of the plains and ensuring guests never lose touch with the surrounding environment. The lounge is a relaxed spot for reading or sharing stories, while the dining area serves fresh, home-cooked meals often sourced from local communities.

Evenings are defined by the campfire, which is lit in front of the main tents as a gathering point before dinner. The service is warm and personal, provided by a dedicated team that creates a welcoming, family-like environment. Limited Wi-Fi is available in the communal areas for basic connectivity.
