About This Lodge

Voi Safari Lodge is a long-standing fixture of Tsavo East, built directly into the side of a rocky hillside. Its primary identity is defined by its elevation, providing a commanding view over the vast, red-earthed plains that stretch toward the horizon. The atmosphere is steady and unpretentious, offering a functional yet spectacular base for those who value perspective and scale.

Rather than a modern boutique feel, the lodge maintains a classic, sturdy presence that feels integrated into the cliffside. The experience here is centered on the visual connection to the park; the design ensures that whether you are dining or resting, the landscape remains the focal point. It serves as a reliable and accessible entry point for travellers who want to appreciate the sheer magnitude of Kenya’s largest national park from a unique, bird’s-eye vantage point.

Location & Setting

The lodge is situated on a high ridge overlooking three man-made waterholes near the Voi Gate. This strategic position makes it one of the most accessible properties for those arriving by road or rail, located just a short drive from the Nairobi-Mombasa highway. Geographically, it sits at the transition point between the rugged hills and the open savannah.

The setting is dominated by the rocky outcrops of the ridge and the wide, open plains below. Access is straightforward via the Voi airstrip or by road, positioning guests perfectly for immediate entry into the park’s southern game-viewing circuits.

Accommodation

The lodge offers 52 standard rooms, each designed with simplicity and panoramic views in mind. The rooms are built into the hillside, using stone and natural materials that mirror the surrounding cliff. Large windows and private balconies are the core features, ensuring the expansive Tsavo plains are the first thing guests see upon waking.

The interiors are clean and functional, focused on providing a cool retreat from the African sun. The sensory experience is one of height and space, where the sound of the wind through the ridge and the sight of distant elephant herds create a calm, grounded atmosphere for rest.

Facilities & Experiences

The standout feature is the unique “hide,” a tunnel that leads to a ground-level viewing bunker right at the edge of the waterhole. This allows guests to see wildlife at eye level, a stark contrast to the lodge’s elevated rooms.

The main dining area and bar are open-plan, continuing the theme of unobstructed views. A rock-hewn swimming pool provides a cool retreat during the heat of the day, seamlessly blending into the surrounding landscape. The service is efficient and experienced, catering to a diverse range of travellers who appreciate a well-established and welcoming environment.
