About This Lodge

Voyager Ziwani Tented Camp provides a secluded and intimate retreat on a private sanctuary bordering Tsavo West National Park. Its identity is shaped by its location along the Sante River, which draws a variety of animals to its permanent waters. The atmosphere is quiet and rustic, offering a contrast to the larger lodges by focusing on a close-to-nature experience.

It emphasizes a sense of discovery, where the boundaries between the camp and the wild feel thin. The camp is ideal for those who prefer a steady, traditional safari feel, where the evening sounds of hippos and the sight of Mount Kilimanjaro create a grounded and authentic African stay.

Location & Setting

The camp sits on a 30,000-acre private farm on the western edge of Tsavo West, overlooking the Sante River. This geography provides a lush, green contrast to the typical volcanic landscapes of the park. On clear days, the silhouette of Mount Kilimanjaro dominates the western horizon.

The property is accessible via the Tsavo West gates or the Ziwani airstrip. Being outside the main park boundaries allows for a more flexible exploration of the riverine forest and the historic sites nearby, such as the Grogan’s Castle.

Accommodation

Accommodation consists of 25 spacious tents situated along the riverbank. Each tent is built on a stone platform and features a private wooden deck that sits just a few feet from the water’s edge. The interiors are simple and functional, using canvas and natural wood to maintain a classic safari aesthetic.

Guests are treated to the sensory experience of the river’s movement and the evening calls of the resident hippo pods. Large mesh windows allow for natural ventilation and constant views of the surrounding woodland, ensuring a deep connection to the environment even while resting.

Facilities & Experiences

The heart of the camp is the thatch-roofed lounge and dining area, which overlooks the river. Here, the service is personal and warm, reflecting the camp’s smaller, more intimate scale. Guests can enjoy meals on the deck or gather around the evening campfire to watch for nocturnal visitors attracted to the water.

A small boutique and a library offer quiet spaces for relaxation between game activities. The camp’s lack of a fence around the river area enhances the feeling of living within the ecosystem, with crocodiles and hippos often visible from the dining table.
