About This Lodge

Ashnil Samburu is a modern and spacious camp located in the Buffalo Springs wing of the Samburu ecosystem. It sits against the backdrop of the Ol Olokwe Mountain, providing a wide-angle perspective of the semi-arid plains. The camp’s identity is tied to its expansive layout and open design, which allows the dry heat and northern light to move freely through the property.

It offers a polished and contemporary take on safari living, emphasizing space and clarity in its presentation. The atmosphere is quiet and organized, designed for those who appreciate a structured and comfortable environment while exploring the rugged wilderness of northern Kenya.

Location & Setting

The camp is positioned in a scenic bend of the Ewaso Nyiro River within the Buffalo Springs National Reserve. The surrounding geography is defined by volcanic soils, scrubland, and the iconic flat-topped mountains that dominate the horizon.

This location provides easy access to the river crossings where wildlife often gathers to drink. Guests can reach the camp via a flight into the Buffalo Springs airstrip or through the main reserve gates, which connect to the primary highway heading north from Archer’s Post.

Accommodation

There are 30 luxury tents arranged along the riverbank, each offering a generous amount of internal space. The architecture uses a mix of permanent walls and canvas, providing a sense of solidity and temperature control. The rooms are finished with clean lines and neutral tones, focusing on a clutter-free aesthetic.

Large wooden decks extend from the front of each tent, offering unobstructed views of the river and the hills beyond. The en suite bathrooms are modern and well-appointed, emphasizing ease and comfort after a long day in the bush.

Facilities & Experiences

The main lodge area is grand and open, featuring a high-ceilinged lounge and a large dining room that opens out toward the pool. A significant feature is the expansive swimming pool, which serves as a social hub and a cooling respite from the desert climate. The service is professional and efficient, catering to guests who prefer a high standard of hospitality.

Large viewing decks are positioned throughout the camp, providing varied vantage points for watching animals move along the opposite bank of the river. The overall feel is one of quiet luxury and structured comfort.
