About This Lodge

Mahali Mzuri, meaning “beautiful place” in Swahili, is Sir Richard Branson’s exclusive twelve-tented camp in the Kenyan bush. It is a high-end camping experience that blends refined comfort with the rugged Maasai Mara ecosystem. The atmosphere is quietly luxurious and grounded, positioned perfectly to immerse guests in one of Africa’s most famous wildlife areas.

The property is part of the Virgin Limited Edition collection and offers a private safari focus away from the busier national reserve. Guests here find a comfortable, relaxed base for tracking wildlife and exploring the plains. This property offers a sophisticated, modern take on the classic East African safari, ensuring every moment feels personal and considered.

Location & Setting

The camp is located within the Olare Motorogi Conservancy, a private area bordering the northern edge of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Its unique position on the side of a lush valley offers uninterrupted views over the rolling plains below. The setting lies directly in the path of the annual Great Migration, which passes through the conservancy.

Accessibility is convenient, typically via flight from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to the local airstrip, followed by a short game drive transfer into the conservancy. The conservancy’s exclusive nature ensures low vehicle density and high-quality game viewing from arrival.

Accommodation

Mahali Mzuri consists of twelve spacious luxury tents, each set on raised decks. The design uses canvas and light wooden finishes, creating a soft balance between modern comfort and the surrounding wilderness. Each tent is oriented to provide maximum privacy and uninterrupted views of the savannah.

Interiors feature a king-sized bed, comfortable furnishings, and a private en-suite bathroom. A spacious private veranda provides a peaceful place to relax and enjoy the view. The tents are positioned along the ridge line, giving them a unique, modern capsule look over the valley.

Facilities & Experiences

The heart of the camp is the central main tent, which houses a relaxed lounge area and a well-stocked library. Guests gather here for drinks around the open fireplace or use the complimentary iPads provided. Dining is a highlight, ranging from communal meals at a large table to private champagne picnics in the bush.

The 12-meter infinity pool, which can be heated, is positioned to offer an impressive view over the valley. For relaxation, the Nasaro Spa tent offers serene views of the bush during massages. The service style is attentive and personal, ensuring all needs are met with a friendly Kenyan welcome.

Our Sustainability & Community Impact

The camp operates a zero-waste water bottling plant on-site, removing the need for imported plastic bottles. They actively support the conservancy model, which leases land from Maasai landowners, ensuring the local community directly benefits from tourism revenue for livestock grazing fees. This partnership provides protection for the land and creates a reliable, sustainable economic structure for the Maasai people.
