About This Lodge

Mara Nyika is an intimate tented camp built on elevated wooden decks in the private Naboisho Conservancy in Kenya. Operated by Great Plains Conservation, this small retreat offers a unique, above-ground perspective of the wildlife-rich ecosystem. It offers an exclusive safari experience, set apart from the crowded main reserve, with a focus on genuine conservation and a deep connection with the surroundings.

Location & Setting

The camp is located in a secluded, well-shaded area by a stream within the 50,000-acre Naboisho Conservancy. This private reserve borders the Maasai Mara National Reserve.

The setting is characterized by the flat-topped acacia trees of the region and the wide plains, which are vital for wildlife movement. Naboisho is a crucial corridor, especially during the Great Migration, and provides a quiet environment for exceptional game viewing year-round.

Accommodation

Mara Nyika features five spacious tented suites, including a two-bedroom family suite. Each suite is constructed on a raised platform and accessed by wooden walkways, giving it a distinctive, treehouse-like feel under canvas.

The tents are furnished simply, emphasizing comfort and functionality. All suites include modern en-suite bathrooms with flush toilets and running water.

Facilities & Experiences

The central main area comprises an open-air bar, lounge, and dining area, all of which offer expansive views of the conservancy. Guests gather on the broad viewing deck or around the outdoor fire pit in the evenings.

A key feature is the professional camera kit, a Canon body with specialized telephoto lenses, provided in every suite for guest use. Binoculars are also supplied for closer observation of wildlife. Complimentary laundry service is included.

Our Sustainability & Community Impact

The presence of Mara Nyika supports a specific land-lease agreement, guaranteeing financial stability for over five hundred local Maasai families. The collective fee paid by guests ensures that these landowners actively choose to preserve the land as a wildlife habitat, rather than converting it for other uses. Furthermore, the parent conservation group links the guest experience to global efforts by donating a portion of the revenue to a partnership dedicated to removing plastic from the world’s oceans.
