About This Lodge

Mara Serena Safari Lodge is the only permanent lodge inside the exclusive Mara Triangle. Perched atop Ol Donyo Oseiya hill, the lodge commands panoramic views that sweep across the savannah and the meandering Mara River. Its architecture is distinct, designed to resemble a traditional Maasai Manyatta, or village, with circular, adobe-style structures blending into the hilltop.

The lodge delivers a full-service experience with all the amenities of a large hotel, yet its location offers an unparalleled ringside seat for the annual Great Migration. The atmosphere is grand and consistent, providing a secure, elevated base from which to observe the Mara’s wilderness.

Location & Setting

The lodge is situated on a hill within the Triangle, a quieter, well-managed section of the National Reserve. This hilltop perch offers 360-degree views, perfectly positioning the lodge to witness two of the main Mara River crossing points.

Guests arrive via the lodge’s own Serena Airstrip, a short distance away. The elevated position keeps the main areas and rooms above the plains, providing a sense of safety and a vast distance from the wildlife below.

Accommodation

The lodge features 74 rooms and one Mara Suite, all built as individual circular pods connected by winding pathways. Each room maintains the cultural design theme with warm colors and Maasai-inspired art.

All units include an en-suite marble bathroom and a private balcony. The rooms are deliberately arranged along the contour of the hill to ensure every guest receives an uninterrupted view of the river or the plains.

Facilities & Experiences

The central building houses a main restaurant and bar, both offering large windows to maximize the view. Guests can enjoy a rock-enclosed swimming pool and sundeck overlooking the Great Migration route.

Travellers have an opportunity to enjoy the wellness facilities, including the Maisha Spa and Gym. The lodge runs a dedicated children’s program and offers a selection of activities beyond the standard game drive.
