About This Lodge

Sekenani Camp offers an authentic bush experience set within the riverine forest at the source of the Sekenani River. The property is designed to minimize its footprint on the environment, with structures raised on stilts to allow the forest floor to remain undisturbed.

A suspension bridge connects the guest tents to the main dining area, adding a sense of adventure to the daily routine. The atmosphere is quiet, private, and deeply connected to the surrounding woodland.

Location & Setting

The camp is situated approximately 6 km from the Sekenani Gate, the main eastern entry to the Mara. It lies within the indigenous forest at the river’s headwaters.

This location offers a shaded, cool environment that contrasts with the open savannah, while still providing quick access to the reserve for game viewing.

Accommodation

There are 15 safari tents, each elevated on a wooden platform to ensure privacy and views of the bush. The interiors feature wooden floors and simple, comfortable furnishings.

A distinct feature of Sekenani Camp is the en-suite bathroom in each tent, which features a full-length bathtub, allowing guests to soak while taking in the forest view. A private veranda wraps around the front, providing a secluded space to listen to the birds and monkeys inhabiting the canopy.

Facilities & Experiences

Relaxing in the main area, which is housed in a large tented structure reached via a suspension bridge over the stream, is magical. Camp residents can enjoy the dining room, a lounge, and a bar stocked with international and local brands. An organic vegetable garden on-site supplies fresh produce for meals. Guests can also make use of the swimming pool, which is set in a sunny clearing within the forest.

Our Sustainability & Community Impact

Sekenani Camp distinguishes itself through the Sekenani River Restoration Project. In partnership with the local community, the camp spearheaded an initiative where local women cleared plastic and waste from the river’s headwaters and planted bamboo to prevent soil erosion. Additionally, the camp’s organic garden serves as a demonstration plot, teaching local community members how to grow their own sustainable food crops in the region’s specific soil conditions.
