About This Lodge

Twiga Safari Lodge is a focused riverside retreat positioned on the southern banks of the Victoria Nile. Its identity is defined by a hybrid architectural style that merges the structural integrity of a permanent cottage with the tactile feel of a safari tent. The lodge serves as a practical and comfortable entry point into the Murchison Falls ecosystem, maintaining a low-profile presence that allows the surrounding environment to remain the primary focus.

It is a place where the proximity to the water dictates the pace of life, offering a consistent view of the river’s movement and the wildlife that congregates along its edges. The atmosphere is steady and unpretentious, designed for those who value functional design and direct access to the park’s northern tracks.

Location & Setting

The lodge is situated in the Mubako-Paraa area, just outside the park boundary but effectively within its sensory range. It sits directly opposite the heart of Murchison Falls National Park, a five-minute drive from the Paraa ferry crossing point.

The terrain is characterized by riverine woodland and scrub, which provides natural screening between the cottages. This specific location offers a vantage point over the Nile, where the water is wide and slow-moving before it reaches the falls. The setting is strategic, reducing transit times to the park’s primary game-viewing circuits while providing a quiet sanctuary away from the busier transit hubs.

Accommodation

The property consists of eight exclusive cottages, each elevated on stone and timber foundations to improve views and natural ventilation. The design utilizes high-quality canvas walls under a permanent thatched roof, creating a climate-stable interior that retains the sounds of the African bush.

Inside, the rooms are spacious and stripped of unnecessary clutter, featuring locally crafted wooden furniture and neutral linens. Every cottage has a private en-suite bathroom with modern plumbing and a dedicated veranda that faces the river. The layout prioritizes privacy, ensuring that each guest has a secluded space to watch hippos and monkeys move through the grounds.

Facilities & Experiences

The central hub of the lodge is a large, thatched structure housing the restaurant and bar, designed with open sides to catch the river breeze. A swimming pool is positioned to overlook the Nile, providing a communal space to unwind between activities. The dining experience is straightforward and wholesome, focusing on continental dishes prepared with fresh ingredients.

Service is personal and attentive, reflecting the small scale of the property. In the evenings, a campfire area becomes the focal point, where the absence of light pollution allows for clear stargazing. The overall experience is one of quiet efficiency, where the facilities support a deep immersion into the local landscape.

Our Sustainability & Community Impact

The lodge maintains a strict “no-noise” policy during evening hours to prevent the disruption of the natural acoustic environment for nocturnal hunters. By using a combination of permanent thatch and canvas, the structures require less industrial cooling, relying instead on traditional airflow techniques. The property also supports a local craft initiative, providing a platform for nearby artisans to showcase traditional weaving directly to guests.
