Hiking & Trekking
Explore the volcanic landscape of Mount Longonot on a focused hiking journey. The day trip combines time on the trails with views of the Rift Valley landscape, with an optional guided rim walk listed in the itinerary.

The experience
Kenya has walking country within easy reach of Nairobi. Mount Longonot is a crater rim circuit with long views over the Rift Valley. Hell’s Gate is walked and cycled between its cliffs and gorge. Karura Forest offers shaded trails and waterfalls inside the city.
Further out, the Aberdares and Mount Kenya offer serious high-altitude trekking that needs its own planning, permits and acclimatisation rather than being added to a safari day.
Our day-trip itineraries cover the accessible walks as standalone programmes that fit neatly into a longer route.

What to expect
Expect uneven ground, exposure to sun and real altitude on Longonot and Mount Kenya. Water, sun protection and proper footwear matter more than technical equipment on the shorter walks.
Where a walk is inside a national park or conservancy, a ranger or guide may be required. Park fees are confirmed as part of the excursion.
Who it suits
- Active travellers wanting a day on foot between game drives
- Guests based near Nairobi or the Rift Valley lakes

Timing and arrangements
Drier months generally give firmer footing and clearer views. Early starts are standard to avoid the heat, particularly on Longonot and in Hell’s Gate.
