About This Lodge

Keekorok Lodge is the first lodge established inside the Masai Mara National Reserve, opening in 1965. It offers a steady, classic safari experience set on an eighty-acre site renowned for its permanent springs and lush grasslands.

The traditional stone and cedar wood design creates a calm, grounded atmosphere. Keekorok offers a central base for game viewing. The lodge is strategically placed in the direct path of the annual Great Migration, making it an ideal choice for guests who want to be immersed in the heart of the action. This traditional stay supports an authentic African journey.

Location & Setting

The lodge is situated in the heart of the Mara, near the Mara River. Its name means “place of black trees” in the local Maasai language. The setting is convenient for travellers, with the Keekorok Airstrip nearby.

This central geography means that wildlife viewing is constant, with zebras and hippos often seen grazing right on the lawns. The property overlooks open plains, providing easy access to game drive routes.

Accommodation

Keekorok offers 97 units, including standard rooms, chalets, and suites. Accommodation styles feature traditional stone-built bungalows and shaded tents, all with private verandas. Interiors use natural materials like cedar wood.

Most rooms provide views of the Reserve, allowing guests to observe nature from their private space. Each space is designed for comfort, offering amenities like hot water and mosquito nets within a classic safari setting.

Facilities & Experiences

The main area features a swimming pool with a sun deck for relaxation. A signature experience is that guests can enjoy the 300-meter elevated wooden walkway that extends into the riverine forest. This pathway leads to the unique Hippo Bar, which overlooks a dam where resident hippos often take a dip.

Dining options include The Chui Restaurant and special outdoor dining experiences, such as the Boma Breakfast, served in a traditional enclosure. Guests can also arrange a Bush Dinner on the Elephant Deck.
