About This Lodge

Cassia Lodge is situated on the highest point of Buziga Hill, offering a functional and quiet retreat from the density of central Kampala. The lodge is defined by its vantage point, providing a clear perspective over Lake Victoria and the city’s sprawling suburbs. The architecture uses local materials like wood and stone to create an environment that feels solid and integrated with the hillside.

It serves as a practical base for those who want to remain near the city’s commercial hubs while maintaining a physical distance from the traffic and noise. The atmosphere is steady and calm, making it a reliable choice for short-term stays where the view serves as the primary backdrop for daily routines.

Location & Setting

The property occupies a steep ridge in the Buziga area, one of Kampala’s more residential and green outskirts. This elevation ensures a constant breeze and a significant reduction in city heat. The setting is dominated by the vast expanse of the lake to the south and the shifting lights of the city to the north.

Access involves a climb through winding residential roads, distancing the lodge from the main highways. The surrounding area is relatively quiet, characterized by private gardens and mature trees, which helps maintain a sense of seclusion despite being within the metropolitan boundaries. It is a location that prioritizes height and visibility over immediate urban proximity.

Accommodation

The lodge features 20 guest rooms, each designed with a focus on space and natural ventilation. The rooms are simply furnished with sturdy wooden pieces and neutral fabrics, avoiding complex decor to keep the focus on the outdoors. Every room includes a private balcony that faces Lake Victoria, allowing for a private connection with the landscape.

The layout is straightforward and efficient, catering to guests who value utility and a clean environment. En-suite bathrooms and satellite television provide the necessary modern comforts, while the large windows ensure that the changing light over the water is a constant feature of the living space.

Facilities & Experiences

The central hub of the lodge is the restaurant and bar area, which opens onto a wide terrace overlooking the lake. A small swimming pool is positioned at the edge of the ridge, offering a place to relax with an unobstructed view of the horizon. The dining room serves a mix of international and local dishes in a setting that feels open and unpretentious.

Service is consistent and low-key, catering to both business travellers and transit tourists. The lodge’s common areas are designed to maximize the cooling winds, making the terrace a popular spot for morning coffee or evening reflection as the city lights begin to appear across the hills.

Our Sustainability & Community Impact

The lodge maintains an indigenous tree planting program on the steep slopes of Buziga Hill to prevent soil erosion and provide a corridor for local birdlife. By choosing not to use heavy perimeter walling in favor of natural hedging, the property allows for the free movement of small reptiles and insects essential to the hill’s ecosystem. The lodge also sources furniture exclusively from independent carpenters in the neighboring Ggaba community, supporting traditional woodworking skills.
