About This Lodge

Ngutuni Safari Lodge is a distinctive property set within its own private sanctuary, bordering Tsavo East National Park. It is defined by its unique architectural style—built on stilts to maximize views and minimize its footprint on the land. The atmosphere is one of quiet elevation, where guests feel part of the landscape rather than observers of it.

The lodge provides a steady and intimate connection to wildlife, centered around a very active waterhole that draws animals day and night. It offers a sense of privacy and seclusion that is rare in larger parks, making it a peaceful sanctuary for those who appreciate the finer, quieter moments of a safari. The experience here is grounded in the observation of nature’s daily rituals from a comfortable and elevated vantage point.

Location & Setting

The lodge is situated in a 10,000-acre private sanctuary that shares an unfenced border with Tsavo East. This location allows wildlife to move freely between the sanctuary and the national park, providing guests with the best of both worlds.

The terrain is characterized by rugged hills and thick scrubland, providing a dramatic backdrop compared to the flatter plains of the main park. It is exceptionally accessible, located just a few kilometers from the main Nairobi-Mombasa road and the SGR train station at Voi. This makes it a perfect stop for those traveling across the country by rail or road.

Accommodation

The lodge features 48 guest rooms, all constructed with local timber and stone to blend into the hillside. Every room is en suite and features a large, private balcony that serves as a personal viewing deck over the waterhole or the sanctuary plains.

The interiors are spacious and cool, utilizing natural ventilation and soft lighting to create a calm, restful environment. The design emphasizes the view; even from the bed, guests can watch elephants or buffalo gathering below. The sensory experience is defined by the elevation—the sound of the wind through the trees and the proximity to the birdlife in the canopy.

Facilities & Experiences

The main lodge structure is an impressive timber building that houses a panoramic restaurant and bar. The dining experience is focused on the waterhole, which is floodlit at night to allow for continuous wildlife viewing long after the sun has set.

The staff provides a warm and attentive service, ensuring that the atmosphere remains intimate despite the number of rooms. A key facility is the underground hide, which allows guests to get eye-level views of the animals at the waterhole, offering a completely different perspective on the wildlife. There is also a small pool area for relaxation between game drives.
