Queen Elizabeth is the savannah half of a Uganda itinerary. After the forests, it offers open plains, crater lakes, and a landscape that runs from the Rwenzori foothills down to Lake Edward.
Its signature is water. The Kazinga Channel links Lake Edward and Lake George, and a boat along it puts you alongside some of the highest concentrations of hippo and buffalo in Africa, with elephant coming down to drink and an enormous amount of birdlife on the banks.
The park also sits in exactly the right place logistically. It breaks the long drive between Bwindi and the rest of the country, which is why so many routes pass through it rather than treating it as a destination in its own right.
