About This Lodge

Karen Blixen Camp is a classic, luxury tented camp situated on the bank of the Mara River. It is located within the Mara North Conservancy, a private wilderness area that borders the Masai Mara National Reserve. The camp’s design harks back to the romantic safari era of the 1920s, with elegant furniture and a nostalgic atmosphere.

The camp offers an exclusive safari experience due to the conservancy’s controlled vehicle density. It provides an intimate connection to the river life, with hippos and crocodiles frequently visible, blending the feeling of an authentic bush camp with refined service.

Location & Setting

The camp is set in a crucial ecosystem location within the Mara North Conservancy, directly on the Mara River. The area offers access to both the private conservancy for guided walks and night drives, as well as the Mara National Reserve, renowned for its Great Migration spectacle.

The surrounding area is characterized by open plains and riverine forests, where the 22 tents are situated. Access is typically via a 45-minute flight from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to the nearby Mara North Airstrip.

Accommodation

The camp features 22 large canvas tents, each raised on a wooden platform with a private veranda. The interiors are furnished in a classic style with comfortable beds, Persian rugs, and dark wood details.

Each tent has an en-suite bathroom with a flush toilet, twin basins, and a special outdoor shower that looks out to the sky. The tents are spaced to ensure privacy and uninterrupted views of the river or the plains.

Facilities & Experiences

The central mess area consists of a thatched lounge, a well-stocked bar, and a dining room. Guests can relax by the swimming pool or enjoy a treatment at the spa.

The camp offers a dedicated Children’s Club for younger guests, providing supervised activities. The main social point is the outdoor fireplace, where guests gather in the evenings for drinks and safari storytelling.
