About This Lodge

Kibo Safari Camp provides a comfortable and accessible base for exploring the Amboseli ecosystem. It is a large, fenced property that strikes a balance between the feel of a tented camp and the amenities of a permanent lodge.

The camp is known for its reliable service and extensive facilities, making it a practical choice for travelers who want to be close to the wildlife action without sacrificing modern conveniences. The design incorporates natural materials to blend with the surroundings while providing a secure environment.

Location & Setting

The camp is located just outside the Kimana Gate of Amboseli National Park. This position allows for very quick entry into the park for game drives, often taking less than five minutes. The grounds are set at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, and the layout of the camp is oriented to maximize views of the mountain.

The area is dry and open, typical of the Amboseli plains, with acacia trees scattered throughout the property to provide shade. An electric fence surrounds the entire perimeter, ensuring that wildlife does not enter the guest areas, which adds a layer of safety for guests walking between tents.

Accommodation

There are 73 self-contained tents available in single, double, triple, and family configurations. Each tent is sheltered under a high thatched “makuti” roof that helps regulate the temperature. The interiors feature custom-made beds built from bush logs, giving a rustic appearance. The floors are made of stone or cement, covered with rugs for added comfort.

Every tent features a private en-suite bathroom with a flush toilet, washbasin, and shower, providing hot and cold water. A private terrace with safari chairs is situated at the front of each unit, providing a personal space to take in the views of the mountain or the gardens.

Facilities & Experiences

The central public area is spacious and houses the reception, lounge, and bar. The dining room is open-sided, allowing guests to dine while taking in the surrounding landscape. The camp features a large swimming pool with sun loungers, which serves as a primary relaxation spot between game drives. For relaxation, the spa offers a range of massage treatments.

A dedicated art gallery and gift shop showcase local crafts and artisans. In the evening, the camp lights a fire in the lounge area, creating a warm social hub for guests to discuss their sightings.

Our Sustainability & Community Impact

The property utilizes a comprehensive solar power system to run its operations, significantly reducing reliance on diesel generators. Kibo maintains its own on-site organic vegetable farm, which supplies the kitchen with fresh produce and reduces the carbon footprint associated with food transportation. The camp has an established tree-planting initiative where guests can plant indigenous trees to help combat desertification in the arid region. They also provide direct employment and training opportunities specifically for residents of the local Kimana area.
