About This Lodge

Tortilis Camp is positioned on the border of Amboseli National Park, delivering views of Mount Kilimanjaro. It offers a simple yet well-established luxury experience. The camp is set in a private conservancy that borders the park, offering both exclusive game viewing and access to the main park area.

The atmosphere is quiet, traditional, and centered on the landscape. It serves as a comfortable base for travelers prioritizing an immediate, unobstructed connection with the iconic backdrop of Kilimanjaro and its surrounding elephant herds.

Location & Setting

The camp is located in a private conservancy on the western edge of Amboseli National Park. Its position ensures the best views of Mount Kilimanjaro, which dominates the horizon. The setting is dry, open acacia woodland, leading down to the park’s swamps and marshlands, which attract large numbers of elephants.

The camp’s private conservancy location allows for walking safaris and night drives, not permitted within the national park itself. Access is primarily by air, with transfers from the nearby Amboseli airstrip.

Accommodation

Tortilis Camp features 16 spacious, tented rooms, including a family tent. Each tent is built on a raised wooden deck with a large thatched roof, blending the comfort of a permanent structure with the feel of canvas.

The interiors are designed to maximize natural light and airflow, featuring spacious bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms with hot running water. A private veranda offers a serene spot for quiet contemplation and a panoramic view across the plains toward the mountains.

Facilities & Experiences

The main lodge is built using local materials and features an open-air dining area. Meals often highlight fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The camp features a large swimming pool set into the ground, offering uninterrupted views of Kilimanjaro.

Evenings are relaxed, with guests gathering at the central fire pit to share stories from the day. A small, separate bar and a library provide quiet spaces for downtime.

It also ensures the conservancy land remains open and protected for wildlife dispersal beyond the national park boundaries.
