Rhino Tracking
Join an on-foot rhino tracking experience at Ziwa Sanctuary in Uganda. The sanctuary visit is included in selected wildlife and primate itineraries and offers a different setting for observing rhinos.

The experience
Rhino tracking is done on foot with rangers, which is an entirely different experience from watching one from a vehicle. In Uganda it takes place at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, the country’s reintroduced southern white rhino population, and it is a common stop en route to Murchison Falls.
In Kenya, rhino tracking and rhino-focused conservation activities run at conservancies including Lewa, Ol Pejeta and Solio, where both black and white rhino are closely monitored.
Because these are managed conservation populations, tracking is arranged through the sanctuary or conservancy and is subject to their rules on the day.

What to expect
Expect a briefing, then a walk with armed rangers and trackers who know where the animals were last located. Ground is generally flat but can be thick, and approaches are made quietly and at a controlled distance.
Minimum ages apply and group sizes are limited. Conservation fees usually form part of the activity cost and go towards protection of the population.
Who it suits
