The experience
A sundowner is the end of the afternoon game drive: the vehicle stops somewhere with a view, drinks come out of the cooler box, and you watch the light go. It is a small thing that most guests remember.
Where it happens depends on the rules of the area. In private conservancies a guide can usually choose a spot and get out of the vehicle; in national parks and reserves, movement after dark and off-road driving are restricted.
Many camps also run their own sundowner spots, sometimes combined with a campfire before dinner.
What to expect
Your guide picks a safe location and sets up. Timing follows sunset, so the drive back to camp is usually in the dark where that is permitted.
Drinks may be included in your rate or charged separately depending on the property. Ask when you book if that matters.
